EcoBunker, in partnership with IVI Golf, is proud to be involved with the restoration at Greenbrier, supplying the material and expertise for phase one which will help make 40 of the most seriously affected bunkers far more resilient. Work starts this month.

“The recent tragedy earlier this year at The Greenbrier Resort, West Virginia, where floods wrecked several golf courses and forced the cancellation of a regular PGA Tour event, is a stark reminder of the power of water,” said Richard Allen, owner of EcoBunker.

“On UK golf courses, the effects of climate change are already manifesting themselves in increased drainage problems (and all the knock-on effects) plus bunker damage. Solutions are available, at a price: traditional drainage work can be expensive and disruptive, and bunker reconstruction perhaps even more so. And clubs are under huge pressure to ensure that their golf courses are regularly in top class condition, as they increasingly rely on repeat business from societies and visitors for valuable income. How can you have climate proof, resilient, free draining bunkers on a limited budget?

“Since the invention of EcoBunker, I’ve been carefully studying a wide range of complimentary products, with the aim of setting up a ‘one stop shop’ for sustainable bunker construction,” stated Richard. “We have now added a base liner, Sandtrapper, to our portfolio. Used on nearly 7,000 golf courses worldwide, this is a proven product which is simple and quick to install by golf club staff. When you consider all factors including purchase price and the ease and cost of installation, Sandtrapper offers superb value for money.” What about drainage? “This is another product I’m really excited about,” commented Richard. “You can now purchase HydroBlox through EcoBunker: As a drainage specialist I can honestly say that this is one of the best products I’ve ever worked with … and it is absolutely perfect for bunkers with a stubborn drainage problem. It is also much quicker to install and the disruption is minimal compared with more traditional drainage solutions which must be of interest to many clubs.”
