The Greenkeepers Training Committee has appointed Alistair Booth its new chairman.

He fills the role vacated by Donald Steel in October.

Having been in consumer and business electronics for a large part of his working life, Alistair sold his business in 2008 and became heavily involved in the golf industry. He initially became a shareholder of Frilford Heath Golf Club in Oxfordshire in 2009 before being appointed executive director in 2010 and then chairman of the company in March 2016.

Alistair was also elected on to the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxford (BB&O) Union of Golf Clubs as executive in 2013. He then followed this up by being appointed president elect of BB&O in March 2015. He is due to become president in March 2017.

Alistair is currently working on the incorporation of the BB&O and he is expected to become chairman of BB&O Golf Ltd when that organisation is formed.

He became chair of the BB&O Golf Partnership Steering Committee in 2014.

Alistair is also a board member of the United Kingdom Golf Course Owners Association and an associate member of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Golf.

Alistair said: “I am both delighted and honoured to be appointed chairman of GTC. The committee plays an important role as an independent organisation representing UK golf club employers and greenkeepers. The committee has recently undertaken a review of its organisational structure and I believe this new GTC will remain faithful to its defining purpose. This purpose is to support all golf facilities in England, Scotland and Wales in making the most of their golf courses by ensuring their greenkeeping teams have access to the best possible training.”

Fiona Lyttle, GTC manager, said: “We are delighted Alistair has accepted the role and we look forward to working with him as the GTC continues to develop.”
