Les Bordes Golf Club in France has appointed Romain Basque as its new golf superintendent.

Les Bordes is one of the world’s most acclaimed private facilities, which features two championship courses and a par three course designed by globally-renowned golf course architects.

Basque brings over two decades of experience working at notable golf clubs across France and the United States, most recently serving as the long-time course manager of Morfontaine. In his new role at Les Bordes, he will be responsible for daily course management, building and modifying programmes, managing the team and overseeing operations.

Les Bordes Golf Club sits within Les Bordes Estate, a 1,400-acre / 560-hectare property in the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The estate features multiple championship courses including the New Course by Gil Hanse and the Old Course by the late Robert von Hagge. The New Course opened in 2021.

“I am very excited to return to my roots in the Loire Valley and to help elevate the standards of the courses even further. I have no doubt that we will continue to gain recognition and to climb the global rankings as the New Course matures,” said Romain Basque. “I am thrilled to work on courses designed by the famed Gil Hanse and to be joining a dynamic team that sets high expectations for delivering an incredible experience for members on and off the golf course.”

Born in Bordeaux, Basque grew up near a golf course and started playing at the age of seven. He began working in the industry at just 15 years old, where he served as the greenkeeper at Bordeaux Lac Golf Club for four years, before receiving his course manager diploma from France’s Dunkirk School in 2007. After spending five years as an assistant at St. Germain en Laye Golf Course, he moved to the US and studied at Ohio State University, where he received his course manager diploma and became fluent in English. Basque then worked at Scioto Country Club in Ohio, Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Florida, and Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina and experienced two PGA tour events – the Memorial Tournament in 2021 and the Wells Fargo Championship in 2013 – and one Presidents Cup in 2013. Basque returned to France in 2013 as the superintendent of Les Aisses Golf Club before moving to Morfontaine Golf Club for six years.
