Course manager Peter Varlow named employee of the month

Peter Varlow, the course manager at ‘The Club at Cams Hall Estate’ in Hampshire, has been named ‘employee of the month’ by The Golf Business magazine.

Peter (pictured) was nominated by Kyran Baxter, the club’s deputy general manager, who said: “At the start of 2023 The Club underwent a full renovation of our front nine bunkers.

“This was a huge undertaking in itself, coupled with carrying out ordinary day to day duties and countless other upgrades.

“The bunkers construction was carried out by John Greasley and, during the works, Pete took the opportunity to upgrade our front nine tee’s irrigation, using his own team, whilst maintaining the full 27 holes, over 30 new or upgraded bunkers as well as growing in the bunkers that have been removed. This covered an area of nearly three acres of newly turfed or hydroseeded grass that needed Pete’s full attention.

“This has brought many challenges, not least with the extreme weather that we have seen since March. And in June Pete dedicated many hours of hand watering to ensure we continue to see great growth in these areas.

“Without Pete’s knowledge and hard work over the last six months the 27 holes of golf would not be in such a great position as we are with a greatly improved golf course and some very happy golfers as a result of his commitment.”
