Following the construction of 51 bunkers at The Rayleigh Club in the summer of 2022, Durabunker recently completed the second phase of the club’s bunker renovation. Seventeen new fairway bunkers were built this spring, adding to the work of the previously built greenside bunkers.

Rhydian Lewis, owner at Durabunker, commented: “Most of the fairway bunkers at The Rayleigh were irrelevant to the better golfer but punishing for the higher handicapper, most being 150 to 200 yards from the tee. We filled in most fairway bunkers and replaced them with new ones ranging from approximately 240 to 290 yards from the tee, meaning the average to better player is now being asked questions on many holes rather than just smashing drivers without any jeopardy.”

All bunkers were designed, shaped and built by the Durabunker team, with Bunkermat being used as a liner and Durabunker’s patented synthetic edge used to fix the bunker shapes.

Roy Carter, course manager at The Rayleigh, commented: “Durabunker offered a complete bunker solution, plus an in-house service, from concept through to completion. The maintenance savings have been fantastic whilst the bunkers have elevated the look and playability of the golf course beyond recognition.”

In total 68 bunkers were built in 15 weeks. Jamie Saitch, owner at The Rayleigh, commented: “We’re so delighted with the results. Durabunker staff have been outstanding not just with the quality of the work but also their attitudes and respect for the club, clubhouse, the members and the course. The work is first class and the look and feel of the course is exactly like I envisioned when we first met.”

Durabunker offers a number of execution models to sit alongside the bunker liner and bunker edging products, from full contract models to supply only, meaning most clubs and budgets are catered for.
