Durabunker recently completed a collaboration with Robert Trent Jones II Design, to re-build all bunkers on ‘The Garden Course’ at Tanah Merah Country Club. Rated one of the best courses in Singapore, a complete re-design was carried out by RTJII with Durabunker synthetic edging being utilised on all bunkers, to offer a long lasting bunker edge solution in an environment prone to bunker erosion and stability issues due to extreme weather conditions.

Having completed a similar project in 2016 at the sister course, known as ‘The Tampines’, Durabunker was again selected via an open tender process, to work with the owners, helping bring to life the design ideas of the RTJII team.

The year-long project saw Durabunker playing a pivotal role on site in the construction of the bunkers collaborating with local contractors ‘TEHC Group’, which it had also worked with on ‘The Tampines’ project.

Rhydian Lewis, Durabunker owner, said: “After the success of Durabunker at ‘The Tampines’ we were delighted to be invited back to site and to work with architects of RTJII’s stature was the icing on the cake.

“The overall design objective we worked with was for higher, more visible sand faces, sprawling sand lines with non-uniform, irregular shapes, and a more definitive sense of individuality from bunker to bunker, whilst still maintaining the feel of clusters of bunkers that sat well together.”

Lewis added that the ease of maintenance and longevity of the product was a primary driver to its inclusion in the rebuild.

“The synthetic edges are installed directly on top of the chosen bunker liner (Bunkermat), to avoid any point of weakness in the interface between sand and bunker edge. This has given a crisp, permanent edge that will safeguard design integrity and offer a permanency that turf edges simply cannot hold a torch to.”
