Durabunker has been busy executing a number of design and build projects in autumn 2021, the latest being at The Dyke Golf Club in Brighton. Set in the beautiful South Downs, the club commissioned Durabunker to design and build 10 bunkers in November.

Course manager Rob Hudson said: “We initially trusted Durabunker with the re-modelling of four bunkers on our 9th and 18th holes, but the results were so good that we had them back in within a few weeks to do similar on three more green complexes.”

The club opted for Durabunker’s rubber crumb liner, DuraCrumb, coupled with its patent-granted synthetic bunker edging solution. Rob continued: “The idea of combining a seamless liner and sealing with a synthetic edge made a lot of sense, and even through Storm Barra the bunkers performed incredibly, not a grain of sand moved in those that had been re-instated, and despite intense rainfall, there was no ponding whatsoever, which was amazing! The bunkers were perfectly playable even in the immediate aftermath of the storm.”

Rhydian Lewis, founder of Durabunker added: “Myself and our team were there during Storm Barra and it was really pleasing to see our high end liner and edging products, coupled with quality construction from our team, standing up in the face of extreme weather. The storm certainly tested the team and our products but also highlighted the water flow around the green complexes which showed one area that needed extra drainage and earthworks to divert water coming from the green complex around the bunker. We were also very grateful for Rob and his team’s support in what was some brutal conditions.”

Rob concluded: “The design that Durabunker implemented has absolutely transformed the aesthetics of the green complexes, they look stunning. The commitment and professionalism of the Durabunker team was exemplary, particularly through the storm, when they still managed to continue working. The golf club is absolutely delighted with the outcomes.”
