A greenkeeper has retired after working at the same club for 57 years – possibly a record in the history of greenkeeping.

A small celebration to mark the nearly six decades of greenkeeping at Sutton Bridge Golf Club has taken place.

The greenkeeper, Andrew Norton, retired after almost 58 years at the club .

The Norton family came to the club in 1952, when Andrew was just 18 months old, and he began his work as a greenkeeper in 1965, graduating to head greenkeeper in 1985.

Andrew Norton received the ladies gift from lady president, Brenda Bell, who presented Andrew with a gift of his favourite tipple from past and present lady members, reports Lynn News.

A presentation on behalf of the club was made to Andrew by the club’s president, Norman Davis.

Only a few members were present as Andrew told the club that he “did not want a fuss”.

The presentation was followed by a meal with the existing greens staff.
