Michael Hampton, Turfcare parts manager at Lely Turfcare, has advised greenkeepers that sharp, well-maintained rotary blades are the key to the most efficient cut, and the most superior after-cut appearance possible.

And with the new season’s flourish of grass growth fast approaching, Michael says now’s the time to raise awareness of ensuring blades are sharp, as well as the importance of inspecting mowers for signs of blade wear.

50-54 toro Rotary blades

“Spring sees greenkeepers tackle large areas of grass much more frequently than other times of the year; activity that can quickly dull rotary blades down.

“If a golf club doesn’t have sufficient stock or isn’t visually inspecting their blades frequently, the situation can quickly lead to serious issues in the middle of golfing high season,” he explains.

Toro’s rotary mowers cut grass by impacting the blade cutting edge against the grass blades at a very high velocity. This cutting action requires that the blade cutting edge is sharp.

“Preparation is vital,” says Michael. “To keep on top of upkeep while mowers are being used more often, I recommend Toro users stock up on replacement rotary blades, ready for any issues that may crop up from blade wear.”

Michael goes on to outline the best course of action should signs of wear be identified during inspection, and why spares are extremely useful: “When signs of wear are identified, the blade must be immediately replaced before it’s used again. This prevents unnecessary damage to the machine and ensures operator safety,” he advises.

With the coming months being an ideal time to stock up, Lely is offering end users a 10 percent discount on any Genuine Toro rotary blades bought from 1st to 31st May this year.

Available in Atomic, Standard and Combo blade options, suitable for the entire Toro Greensmaster range, end users can take advantage of the discount through their local genuine Toro parts dealer or service centre, while stocks last.
