Shek O Country Club reaps benefits of EcoBunker

One of Hong Kong’s most exclusive sporting establishments is reaping the benefits of EcoBunker’s Advanced System.

The Shek O Country Club, on the southern side of Hong Kong Island, has recently completed this summer’s bunker renovations as part of its on-going bunker improvement programme. EcoBunker Advanced System is the focal point to these new bunkers, from a structural point of view as well as aesthetically.

Ross Grieve, golf course manager at The Shek O Country Club, said EcoBunker has contributed to reduced bunker maintenance as well as producing eye-catching bunkers for members and guests.

Grieve said: “The main reason for renovating our bunkers is to reduce wash-outs and, as a result, less bunker maintenance. I also wanted to increase the area that can be mown by ride-on equipment and reduce hand/fly mowing.

“Using EcoBunker provides a stable bunker edge and one that we can confidently use ride-on equipment over so that our staff can mow right up to the bunker’s edge.

“The Shek O Country Club is a links-styled golf course and using EcoBunker allows us to construct revetted bunkers that match our style.”

Grieve said the Shek O facility raised the bunker base levels where possible to allow for easier access for the club’s ageing membership.

He said: “We replaced the sand-flashes faces with EcoBunker and used this at varying heights which has worked out very well. All of our bunker renovations were carried out by Asian Sportsturf Ltd,” he added.

The only bunker edge system on the market that has stood up against severe typhoons and hurricanes, the EcoBunker Advanced System was invented and developed by EcoBunker Ltd, a Full Business Member of the Asian Golf Industry Federation.
