Tributes have poured in for the course manager at Kings Golf Club in Inverness, Stevie McIntosh, who tragically collapsed and died while competing in an event at Carrbridge Golf Club.

A report in The Inverness Courier states: ‘Concerted efforts to save a competitor at Carrbridge Golf Club were tragically unsuccessful.

‘Stevie McIntosh, course manager at Inverness’ Kings Golf Club, fell ill during the event.

‘Mr McIntosh is understood to have been in his early 50s.

‘The competition was abandoned.’

A spokesperson for Carrbridge said: “It happened during the Stewart Taylor Gents Open at around 12.30. He took to feeling unwell. As his condition did not improve he was attended by first aiders and then by ambulance crews and the air ambulance, who battled to save him but sadly he died at the scene.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Several greenkeepers and colleagues took to social media to write their tributes.

“I’ve know Stevie a long time – [he’s an] all round good guy. Condolences to all his family for their sudden loss. Sad day for golf and greenkeeping, especially in The Highlands where he was very well known,” wrote Robert Patterson, the course manager at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club.

“One of the good guys. Lovely bloke who always had time for you. Will be surely missed,” wrote Reesink Turfcare’s Peter Newton MG.

“Sad loss to the greenkeeping and the golf world. [He was] someone who supported all local golf events in The Highlands and was a great competitor. A very sad day. Rest in peace Stevie,” added irrigation specialist Michael Watson.

“Sorry to hear this sad news. Saying prayers for his family,” stated Ronnie Atkin, the deputy head greenkeeper at Gleddoch Golf Club.

“Gutted to hear this news, thoughts and prayers are with him and his family,” wrote Paul Hampsey, the golf course manager at Glasgow Golf Club.

“Tragic news Stevie you will be missed. My condolences to his family,” added golf consultant Bruce Jamieson.
