“Here at The West Lancashire Golf Club we pride ourselves in trying to improve the standards all the time,” said Stuart Hogg, course manager at The West Lancashire GC.

“On arriving in my position as course manager just under four years ago at this historic Links on the north west of England, sandwiched between three Open courses, the wooden sleeper steps had become very worn, with some having old anti slip materials on them and some not. It was also noted by our health and safety consultant that some sort of plan had to be put in place to not only replace the wooden sleepers but also increase the anti-slip area within each step.

“Having previously used GripClad at my last course it was very easy to recommend to the club a company that could help us achieve this. Not all our sleeper steps would be the same size with some of our small tees needing only metre-wide steps, this also enhanced GripClad as they could cut the material to the correct size leaving us with minimal waste costs.

“The club have embarked on a four-year replacement programme of our sleeper steps here and each year the staff seem to be able to fit these quicker due to the fact that it comes all pre-cut to size and also the use of the screws and glue supplied by the company.

“We are now into our third winter of step replacement and I believe not only do the new steps improve the surrounding areas but the GripClad itself enhances the area as well as making it far safer in the wet, slipper conditions and therefore we look forward to continuing our relationship with GripClad.”
