November definitely brought some challenging working conditions for the golf course management community and during this wet period Htn has been busy supporting course managers across the UK. Its programme in November included a visit to City of Newcastle Golf Club to carry out renovation work to the timber steps. Seven sets of steps were successfully refurbished, totalling 70 individual steps, varying in size between 1.3 and 2.4 metres wide.

Typical of old steps, many were rotted and had clearly deteriorated over time. Htn installed new facias and H-Flex treads to bring about the refurbishment.

“We had a number of old timber steps which provide access to our elevated tee boxes. Due to their poor condition they had been giving us some concern and after seeing the H-Flex Safe-Step system on social media, we invited Htn to refurbish them. I am pleased to say that we are very happy with the transformation,” said Craig Parkinson, head greenkeeper, City of Newcastle GC.

As H-Flex also uses recycled tryes as part of the material makeup, the eco impact of this project is that 150 tyres were prevented from going to landfill.

Going forward: Since raising Htn’s profile in last month’s GreenKeeping, things have started to get busy. H-Flex surfacing is soon to be installed at Hale Golf Club and Wigan Golf Club. The H-Flex Bunker Base is also due to be installed in bunkers at The Brockenhurst Golf club in Hertfordshire.
