Real Madrid footballer Gareth Bale has said he will build a golf course for his UK home and employ a full-time greenkeeper to maintain it.

Welshman Bale, the world’s most expensive footballer, has commissioned the construction of a three-hole golf course in the garden of his Vale of Glamorgan home.

Bale wants three holes from three separate courses to be replicated outside his home – the Postage Stamp at Troon, the Amen Corner 11th at Augusta, home of The Masters, and the 17th at Sawgrass, venue for the unofficial fourth Major, The Players Championship.

Reports say that Bale will employ a full-time greenkeeper and his intention is to play as much golf as possible when he retires from football.

“I love playing golf,” he said.

“I love the sport, I love the fact that you can just get away from everything, be with your friends, and no-one can come over to you on a golf course.

“It’s nice to get out and, I suppose, switch your mind off from football. Just have a laugh.

“Yeah, at the moment, I am obsessed with golf. I try to play as much golf as possible.

“I’ve not really thought about what I’ll be doing in 20 years when I’m retired from football, but, hopefully, I will be playing golf.”

The news comes as Coleen Rooney, the wife of England international striker Wayne, said on social media that they have built a small golf course in their garden as a birthday present for their son Kai, who recently turned six.

Coleen’s brother Anthony works for a company that installs miniature golf courses.
